Statement by John Wood, Independent Candidate for U.S. Senate in Missouri
(Kansas City, Missouri - August 9, 2022) John Wood, independent candidate running for Missouri’s open seat in the U.S. Senate issued the following statement on Tuesday:
"Eric Schmitt says he wants to take a 'wrecking ball' to the Department of Justice. This is political posturing at its worst. Schmitt claims to support law enforcement, but apparently his loyalty to Donald Trump is stronger than his commitment to law and order.
“I am honored to have worked in the U.S. Department of Justice. The attorneys and law enforcement agents who work there are among the most dedicated public servants I have ever known. Viciously attacking their service not only undermines trust in these public servants, but further erodes the democratic principles of our country. The rule of law requires the Department of Justice work for all people, not any one person or either political party. That same rule of law applies regardless of who might seek to subvert justice.
“It's time to elect leaders who will insist on integrity, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. Missourians should expect better from their Attorney General and from all their elected leaders. Missouri needs a U.S. Senator who will put an end to vicious partisan politics and tackle the serious problems confronting our state and our country."
